What will you focus on in 2013?

2013-12012 has come to a close.  It has been a great year filled with life, marriage, motherhood and ministry.  Our family has made many memories this year— including hosting a Spanish exchange student, Adam having major back surgery, Andrew giving his life to Christ in baptism, me running in my first 5k AND reaching my first major weight loss goal, Andrew being in a community Christmas program, Adam and I finishing foster care training so that we can become a foster family and many more memoriable moments.

Did I accomplish everything perfectly? No. Was it messy?  Sure.  Did God use it?  Most definately!!!

2012 was a great year.  But an imperfect year.  God has been working to model us Joneses into the family He wants us to be.  However, I am looking forward to what God has in store for us in 2013.  Today on Ann Voskamp’s blog I read (http://www.aholyexperience.com/2013/01/when-you-dont-want-a-new-year-but-a-new-you-camera-giveaway/)

We are all going to botch it somedays. We all sometimes get the notes wrong. But the song only goes wrong when we keep thinking back to the wrong notes

Moving forward is what makes music. And that list that you’re running around in your head? Of all that you got messed up and wrong in 2012? That’s the wrong list to be playing, Ann. Because I read this game-changer of a book all about joy right where you are ….

“And the real list that you need on replay is that gratitude list — that list of all His gifts in 2012. Playing the list of God’s gifts is what makes music….  And the truth is: Your 2013 doesn’t need to-do lists like it needs to-God-be-the-glory lists!”joy

Now I am not really a resolution-setter as I tend to lose focus somewhere between January 1 and December 31.  However, several years ago a great friend of mine challenged me to choose a word that I want my year to be all about.  So this year I am taking the plunge.  My word is JOY.

I will be focusing on finding the JOY in my life.  JOY in my marriage.  JOY in motherhood (and foster parenting).  JOY in the calling God has placed on my life.

One way I will be focusing on choosing joy each day is by counting 1000 gifts.  Ann Voskamp challenges her readers to choose joy daily by looking for all the many blessings God gives.  In daily living.  In the joys of life.  In the hard times of the “process”.  If you are interested in taking the Joy Dare with me, there is more information about it here- http://www.aholyexperience.com/joy-dares/

I hope you will join me in being more intentional about 2013.  Not just floating through it wondering what God has in store.  But choose something to focus on.  Pray for God to show you where He wants you to focus.

Blessings to you in all that 2013 brings.
