A Momma’s Prayer

This week wraps up our SUPER busy summer.  Adam has been away with our teens to Xavier University at KNOW Sweat.  This is an introduction-to-missions type of trip where they go and do work project within the city of Cincinnati.  Every year I drive down to visit our group and worship with them. On Wednesday night, myself and some other wonderful ladies made a visit and heard an incredible message by a lady name Jodi Hickerson.  She spoke of the many hats and masks we wear.  And then spoke some very pointed truths straight from God’s Word- things that God thinks about us which can enable us to take off the hat or mask. 

Even as amazing as the words Jodi spoke were, the thing that was the most powerful to me about the evening was a great exercise that KNOW Sweat has decided to do this year.  They are working to have the students memorize a section of Scripture through the week.  And to do so they are reading it aloud every night as a group during the worship time.  The particular section we read on Wednesday was this…

Ephesian 3:17b-20 And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.   Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

Now this is a great passage for anyone to remember.  For those who are working to not wear the hats/masks anymore.  For those who need to be reminded of HIS love. 

However on this particular night, my snuggable six year old son was sitting on my lap, intently listening to everyone in the room and trying to read the words on the screen.  And in that moment my Mama’s heart cried out to the Lord on behalf of my son. 

I want to root Andrew in Your love, Lord.  I want him to KNOW Your power and the power that Your Church has, especially when they work together.  I want him to see that Your love is wide, long, high, and deep- but that this love is available to HIM.  And that You have amazing plans for his life- more than he could ask or imagine.
